STOCK REPORT.

Messrs Weight, Stephenson, and Co. report, for the week ending 7th September, as follows : —

Eat Cattle. — 82 head were yarded, of which about 50 were taken by the trade; the balance, being inferior, were sold for grazing. We quitted 35 head, fair to good quality, at from £5 5s to £7 10s for heifers (light weights) ; and £5 10s to £8 2s 6d for bullocks, equal to 25s per lOOlbs for good quality, and 18s for inferior. Fat Sheep. — The quantity coming forward is not equal to the demand and prices are in consequence a litttle firmer. 600 were penned. We sold 206 merino wethers, middling quality, at 13s each ; and 80 half-breds, good quality, at 22s 6d each. Other sales were — 300 merino wethers fair quality, at 13s 6d. We also sold privately 700 merino wethers at 3f per lb, and 50 half-breds at 4£d. We quote halfbreds, 4£ per lb ; merino, 4d.

Store Cattle. — We have considerabld enquiries for bullocks and spayed cows. We quote bullocks, 3 to 5 years, £B 10s to £4 ; mixed lots. 45s to

for delivery DBrere'sneairing. • , , Country Sales.— On Monday! the 2nd inst.,' we held a sale at East Taieri, on account of Mr. James Campbell. Everything submitted was disposed off after smart competition. Light draught horses brought from £28. to £35. ; saddle ditto, £9 to £20 ; cattle, mixed sexes, 41s ; dairy cows, £3 10s to £4 ; farming implements, satisfactory rates. On Tues-. day, the 3rd instant, we held our monthly sales at Mosgiel. There was a fair attendance of buyers, but as" the quantity of stock offered was small, only a limited amount of business was done. All that was offered, however, sold at full rates. On Thursday, the sth inst., our monthly sales at Palmerston took place. Buyers were numerous, and everything was quitted at full value. 14 fat bullocks fetched from £10 10s to £11 12s 6d ; 10 cows, £6 5s to £7; 40 store bullocks, in good, thriving condition, £3 10s to £5 7s 6d ; 30 head inferior, mixed cows and yearlings, 30s: draught horses, £20 to £37; light do., £7 to £12. On Friday, the 6th inst., we held our monthly sales at Waikouaiti. Only a moderate number of cattle were yarded, all of which found ready saY Cows brought £3 to £5 ; a few light horses, £7 to £12.

Horses. — There is a good demand for young, heavy draught stock and horses adapted for coaching, but other descriptions are dull of sale. "We shall offer at our yards on Saturday, the 14th inst., on account of Mr. John Trestrail, a very superior shipment of draught fillies, ex Albion, from Melbourne ; also, the Clydesdale entire horses Heather Jock and Dan O'Connell, which ought to elicit lively competition. We quote first-class draughts £45 to <£55 ; medium do, £25 to £30; good hacks' and light harness horses, £18 to £25 ; middling do, £10 to £13 j light and inferior, £4 to £6.

We beld our weekly sale of sheepskins on Thuisday last, when we offered 700, which were sold at the following rates : — Merino skins, 3s 9d to 4s 4d each ; half-bred do, 5s lOd to Gs 2d.

Grain. — Wheat is firm at 5s 4<d to os 6d for good samples. Oats have an upward tendency, but we cannot yet quote any sales at higher prices. Feed command Is lOd to Is lid ; milling, 2s Id to 2s 2d per bushel. Barley, wanted, and worth 5s 9d to 6s for malting samples.
