BLUE SPUR.

(From our Mining' Correspondent. )

The claims on the Spur have again settled down to something like steady work, hayjng a plentiful supply of prater, The arbitration case between the 1 Great Extended Go. and the Nelson Co. has at last b.een settled, the Nelson Co., being awarded £250 damages, and *he Extended £150, altogether £400. This case will most likely put a stop to settlement by arbitration in the future, as jt has proved rather an expensive method. It is stated that the three gentlemen chosen as arbitrators received seven guineas a day each for cix days for their seryices. Not so bad in these times.

On the quartz reef matters are looking rather, bright this week. The prospectors have made a start with the erection of their battery, whioh is expected to be ready in 5 or 6 weeks. The companies south of the prospectors have amalgamated, fop the purpose of driving a tunnel from Welshes Gully in the direction of the reef. As the drive will be at the lowest level attainable without sjnking, ip is anticipated it will thoroughly prospect the south side of the prostor's claim.

On the north Bide, Messrs. Clayton arid Co. have succeeded in coming to a settlement with Mr. Clark, or rather the arbitrators on the cage, who awarded that gentleman compensation at the rate of £20 an acre for his lease and paddock. Messrs. Varcoe and Co. are still negotiating for their share pf the same paddock, which no doubt will b.e settled satisfactorily, as from the former valuation Mr. Clark can well afford to be liberal without hurting himself.
