WARDEN'S REPORT.
Mr Pyke (Tuapeka district), writing under date June 30, says : — During the pasfc quarter this district has been visited with snow-storms of unprecedented severity, closing the roads and causing a nearly total suspension of mining operations, the consequences of which must and will be indicated by the quantities of gold escorted from the various divisions during the current quarter. These escorts for the three months have been as follows :—: — April, 2,657 oz. 6 dwt. ; May, 3,427 oz. 18dwt. ; June, 2,610 ozs. 15 dwt.; total, 8,695 oz. 19 dwt. There have not been any new discoveries reported to me during the quarter, although mysterious rumors of rich quartz reefs to be hereafter opened up haye been more than usually prevalent. I think that recent discoveries of auriferous lodes have stimulated enterprise, and fostered a spirit for research from which valuable consequences will probably result.
