GAMBLERS TRAPPED.
A body of the Melbourne police made a raid on a Chinese gambling den on the 24th. They rushed the back aud front entrances, and fouad inside seven Chinamen and fifteen Europeans, all of whom were captured after an exciting scene, during which the trapped gamesters ran, jumped, and made every endeavor to escape. When they were all secured they were handcuffed two and two, and the couples were placed in line one behind the other. A rope was then pased down the double file, dividiug the coupled prisoners as a bullock-chain divides the yoked oxen in a team. The mixed tea*n of Asiatics and Europeans were then marched down to the watch-house, escorted by a crowd of several hundred, said by some to number fully a thousand persons. All the Chinese were liberated on bail, and a few of the Europeans were equally fortunate, but the majority of the latter had to remain in durance.
