NOKOMAI.

Business and mining matters are both intolerably dull. The Nokomai Flat Company is not yet at work; although the directors have been. some time elected. However, I am imformed it will start shortly.

A half-yearly public examination of the school children took place on the 26th ult., and handsome prizes, subscribed by the inhabitants, distributed. Mr. H. Lapham, the master, was voted the thanks of the residents for the very evident improvement in the children.

Mr. Aiton, the present proprietor of the Myall Hotel and store, and Mr. Roqhe of Athol, have each made great additions and improvements to their premises} and, I believe, the other etorekeepers will follow suit, The miners in the Eyre District (Roger's run) are getting up a petition to have district proclaimed a goldfield, as at present they have no protection for races, dams, &c, or inducement to lay out capital. But little was done at the laet Warden's Court. A case, Coulam v. Turner, for £20 odd, occupied some time. Defendant wished to retain possession of a but he occupied of plaintiff's on Crown land, and for which he agreed to pay rent. The Magistrate gave decision for nearly the amount claimed and costs, including the rent charged ; and informed defendant he would have to go to the Supreme Court- to try if he could retain the hut against plaintiffs will,
