EMIGRATION AGENTS.
A return of the various Emigration Agents appointed by the General Government and the Agent-General, with the terms of their remuneration, has been laid on the table of the House of Representatives. From this return we gather the following particulars :—: —
B. E. Friberg, sent from NewZealaud to Scandinavia, but now on his way back, his misdion having been useless. Salary, 18s. per day as travelling expenses ; 10s. for each statute adult obtained by him as an emigrant ; and his passage to London and back paid. Cost of passage to London, LB4 15s.
Thomas Birch, sent from New Zealand tathe United Kingdom. Terms of remuneration same as Mr. Friberg's.
James Seaton, same as Mr. Birch, except that his passage to England coat this Colony only L 55, as against Mr. Birch's LIOO.
N. W. Farnall, sent from New Zealani to perambulate Great Britain and the Continent of Europe, Terms, same as Messrs Birch and Seaton. Cost of passage to London, LBO. Rev. P. Barclay, appointed by AgentGeneral to act in Scotland. Salary, L 250 per annum, and travelling expenses. C. R. Carter, ex-M.H.Rfor Wairarapa, appointed by the Agent-General, with the United Kingdom as his field of operations. Salary, L3OO per annum, and travelling expenses.
Winge and Co., Christiania, LI for each statute adult, up to L2OOO.
Knorr and Co. , Hamburg. Same terms as Messrs. Winge and Co. Local Agents in Britain — 320 in number. Terms, 10s. per adult for married persons and single women, aud 53. per head for single men. No mention is made in the return of the Rev. D. Bruce, although it is only reasonable to suppose that his travelling expenses at least were paid. It is also not unlikely that Messrs. Birch and Selfton may subsequently have higher pay given them ; for Dr. Featherston, in a letter published in the " Daily Times " of the 29th ult., expressed it as his opinion that the remuneration above stated would be " wholly inadequate to 'compensate them for their expenses £nd labor," and asked the Government to give them a fixed salary ; while the Government, through Mr. Reeves, replied that the remuneration would belef L . to Dr Fea-ther-ston's discretion. _^ __
