THE LOSSES BY THE CHICAGO FIRE.

The Fire Marshal of Chicago has made a report on the great fire of last October, in which he" places the number of buildings destroyed at 25,000, covering an area, including stfeet3, probaUy, of 2,000 acres. The total loss in value of buildings destroyed is set dosvn at 52,000,000, dols., and of personal property 138,526,500 dols., making the total loss 190,526,500 dols. The total amount of insurance is stated to be 90,000,000 dols ; this, we presume, includes only the amount of insurance that is collectable. The net loss, therefore, is 100,526,500 dols. Some of the items of losses are interesting to the general reader : Business blocks, 33,515,000 dols.; hotels, 3,100,000 dols.; public buildings, city and county, 3,384,800d015. ; schools and churches, 3,238,780 dols.
