WANTED TO KNOW.

(To tlie Editor.)

" Sir • Can you tell me the reason why there was such a rush to the Athenaeum laat week? Amongst those most frequently at the institution recently, I noticed several who set themselves up as great authorities in literature, and who are in the habit of claiming familiarity with the writings of every author that wrote since the expulsion of Adam from the garden of Eden. Is the explanation suggested by a friend of (mine, viz., that many who intended to be present at the dinner proposed to be given to Mr. Trollope, wanted to find out the titles of the books that gentleman has written, in order that they might not be considered ignorant cusses, correct ? — Yours truly, Ignoramous.

[We don't know.— Ed.]
