The Sydney Empire and Morning Herald have had a nice little squabble over the future Anglo-Australian Press telegrams, and the gist of it may be given in a very few senteuces. In the first place, the Herald and Argm, who had been for some time previously acting in co-operation under the title of the •' Australian Associated Press," purchased from the celebrated English and Continental telegraphist, Mr Keuter, the sole ri £bk to all telegrams hereafter to be sent by him to these Colonies. Having thua secured a monopoly, they are now in a position to dictate terms to the other journals of tho Colonies, and hence the Correspondence that we have just mentioned. The Herald started the combat by informing the Empire of the arrangements made by itself and the Argus with Renter, and offering to share its advantages with the first-named journal for a consideration «f L6OO a month, to be paid in advance. The re t 'ly of the Empire was that, provided the Evening News (a journal which, as mo3t people knows, is the only rival the Herald stands in fear of), was allowed to participate in the good things offered it would willingly fall in with the arrangement. This the Herald objected to, pointing out that it could only deal with morning contemporaries, and inviting » further and more careful consideration of the matter. The Empire, though for obvious reasons, stuck to its resolution ; and the upshot of the affair is that that journal has sent a representative to the old country with instructions to treat with some -European telegraphic agent other than the great Eeuter. Meanwhile the edifying verbal battle between Messrs Fairfax and Bennett has been revived, and a considerable amount of acerbity is being shewn by bout pvtiet
