WASTE LAND BOARD.

August 6.

The Waste Land Board met as above, at noon. Present : — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Hughes and Allan.

On J. Smith's application, to purchase tne unsold land on block 5, Waitahun* West, at 10s an aero, it was resolved thai; the land be surveyed into 320 acre sections by the applicant, and sold by auction, with cost of survey added. Messrs Gillies and Street's application, for a refund of the deposit paid by G. and W. Playfair in excess of survey, was recommended to the (lOvernment.

In accordance with the Warden's report oh the letter of Charles Micholson being considered, all sections south of Benger Burn to be withdrawn from sale.

Richard Rvan's application, for protection for coal pf 'Spouting in North Harbor and Blueskin, was refused. On John Deuson and Charles Bahra's applications for protection for prospecting coal, it was resolved that on the boundaries being denned, the Board would consider.

D. Halloran's notice, that he must abandon his lease unless the Beard rt-duco the rent to 12s 6d per acre, was referred to the Ranger for report. The consideration of the objections of R. P. Cocker and A. T. Braid, to the establishment of a fellmongery in Ettrick waa postponed until a sketch be produced. The sale of section 44, block 2, Clarendon, w.is confirmed. Mr Hughes protesting.

Mr Doughty's application for U. Duncan to have section 44, block 8, North harbor and Blueskin, put up for sale at 10s an acre was agreed to. On considering the telegrams from the Provincial Secretary tfte District Surveyor's recommendation and subdivision of G9a, block 14. Gleukunich. was adhered to.

In accordance with a telegram from the Provincial Secretary it was was resolved to allow the saw mill license at Lake Wakatip. of Boult, Alaokay, & Co. to be open to public competition. The letter of F. J. Wilson, solicitor, Clyde, requesting that proceedings against Nicholas and Co., Kawarau, should be stopped, was read. The application of John Dickison to purchase 700 acres on run 140, block 12, Glenkenich, with runhokler's consent, was refused.

Plans of purchases applied for by John Scott and H. Dickson, Avereappioved. The refund of a deposit of LlO paid by P. Burke and Co. was recommended.

On the application of Mr Herbert for Mr Smith, to have section 87, block 3, Waitahuna. put up for sale, it was resolved that it be offered for sale by auction, as land of special value at 21s au acre.

The L'ommiss oner was instructed to enquire into thcdelays of certain authorised surveys, calling attention to tho penalties.
