July 27. Prime samples of milling wheat are being offered in considerable parcels at 5s 6d. The town millers are not willing to give this price, and transactions have been limited to the sale of a few small lots. The value buyers place on good samples is 5s 3d. Inferior wheat, suitable for producing secondclass flour, is selling freely at 4s 6d. Fowl wheat is scarce, hut there is no improvement on the price, 3s. Tn oats a slightly firner quotation may bs given ; prime milling sorts are placed at Is lid to 2s, but the latter price would not be given for large lots; feeding samples move at Is 9d to Is lOd. Inferior bailey is in Active demand at 4s 6d to 4s 9<X, and there is bat little coming forward. Malting samples continue firm at 5s 6d. Potatoes are very scarce ; small sales were made yesterday at L 7, but L 6 10s is the value for parcels. Flour is only in trade demand. Ihe price is firm, and likely to continue so. iSajks, Ll3. Mercer reports for the week ending 27 th July :—Retail puces only— Fresh butter, in £lb and lib prints, best quality, Is 4d to Is 6d per ib ; second quality, Is 3d to Is4d ; fresh but er in lumps, Is ldj powdered aud salt butter, best quality, Is 2d ; second, lOd to lid. Fresh butter still continues scarce, the supply being readily met by the demand at last week's quotations. For good samples of salt butter in kegs lOd per lb is being given. Cheese keeps in good request, and has an upward tendency in price. Best quality is worth 8d to 9d ; second quality, 6d per lb. Side and rolled bacon is fetching 9d to lOd. Eggs were very scarce about the beginning of the we. k, but are a little more plcnt'ful again, and may be quoted at Is 9d to 2s per dozen.
