THE TEVIOT LAND SALE. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.)

Wellington, July 24. Mr. Shepherd obtained on Tuesday the appointment of a Select Committee to enquire into the sale of land to Messrs. Cargill and Anderson, and to report on its locality and policy. Donald Reid opposed, stating that the bjock of land did not include fifty acres of agricultural land, or any auriferous land. Mr. Mervyn stoutly asserted the same thing, and said the Roxburgh people had no objection to the sale. He told the House that he resided at the Teviot, and knew the land well.
