Wellington, July 15, A large public meeting was held here on Saturday night.' Resolutions were passed requesting the Government to quarantine all Auckland vessels for fourteen days. The Government hay.: dec ined to comply with the rtquest of the meeting, on the ground that to do so it would be necessary to declare both Aucklan I and Wellington infected ports, and that it would bj absurd to declare Auckland infected because there are a few more cases there than in Wellington. The Wellington arrived yesterday, was inspected by the Health Officer, and allowed to go alongside the wharf. Mr Kaye id completely recovered, and has been released from quarantine. Auckland, July 15, The barque Joliba, for Newcastle, struck on the Eangitoto Keef, and was badly injure;!. She will discharge cargo, and repair here. j Malcolm M'Gregor, the small-pox patient at the hospital, died this morning. Caledonians are in considerable demand from LIS to L 25. Exceedingly rich specimens have been taken from an old specimen leader, ten feet thick, 60 feet north of the old Otago run. Several bags of .specimens have been taken out to-day. Wellington, July 15, Another case of small-pox was discovered to-day. A child of Mrs Clout's, Kaye's washerwomon, is reported to be dying. Auckland, July 16, A great fire has taken place at Shnrtland. The south-west sids «>f Polleu street, from the old Bank of New Zealand to Litchliekl and Burnett's — one mile — is destroyed. No particulars as yet. Mr Von der Heyde publishes a telegram from Kaye, who says he did not state to Dr Bnlmer he was aware of small-pox on board the > ebraska. . Joseph Kinsey, who died at Dublin, left L 5.000 to the Aucklaad Orphm Home and L 5.000 for the support of clergymen in Auckland. Aichibald Lamb has had his thigh broken by accident. There is considerable excitement in Caledonians, owing to the finding of some rich specimens. Shares are up to L 45.
