ROXBURGH.
(From a Correspondent.) A most amusing scene occurred here a few days ago, in front of the Courthouse. Two miners, better known to the public as the representatives of two eminent ornithological families living in (A waruni) Mount Benger district, were at law with each other ; and they attended at the Roxburgh Court-house to have their disputes settled in due form. AVhile the case was proceeding, one of them suddenly intimated by hard words and scientific questions that a pugilistic settlement would meet the demands of the case, averring at the same time it would be much more satisfactory than the Warden's decision. He drew off and dealt his opponent a heavy blow in' the mouth. A curious engagement now began in front of the open Court-house. The flail principle predominated in the struggle,- and it was evident that no bones would be broken. After the second round, the beginner of the strife caved in r and humbly implored mercy and forgiveness from a high ledge of a rock, where he* had taken up a position- for safety: He was bleeding to such an extent from the effects of his plucky adversary's operations that fears of his life were entertained, and a doctor was brought. Tho doctor found that, although the organs of vision were, in the language of the ring, " bunged-up," and his nasal protuberance frightfully elevated and swollen, that the application of a slice of beef seasoned with salt and vinegar was only required. The poor fellow did not act by the, medical advice, drowned his stinging pains and griefs in the " flowing bowl." I may add that tho one who acted on the defensive escaped without any mark?. Both were brought up before th.3 Resident Magistrate, pleaded guilty, and were flued 20s'. each, and costs.
