WASTE LAND BOARD.

The Waste Land Boar J met at 3 o'clock on Monday and at noon Tuesday. Present on both occaions — the Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Hughes aud Keid. A let.or was read trom Messrs Cargill and M'Lean offering to open for sale on their run 20,000 acres of lard. It was agreed to open 20,000 acres for sale under the terms of the 83rd and 123 rd sections of the Waste Land Act, 186 S. On James Baird's application to purchase section 20 of 85, block 6. North Harbor and Blucskin, at 10s an acre, it was agreed, on Henry applicitiou, to have sections 102 and 103, block 5, Otepopo, put up for sale at 10s an acre, and that the land should be advertised for sale by auction. Connell and Moodies applicition to purchase 92 acres on run 350, for Mr Low, was approved. A further report from the Ranger on Mr Maitland's fence was read. It was resolve! that the 10 acres applied to purchase by John Cargill, on section 3, block 13, Dunedin, be sold by auction as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale. Ups^t price LI per acre. Survey expenses to be added to the upset price, and p >id by the purchaser. The Commissioner was authorised to take action against Messrs Wrightson and M'Eus for illegal occupation of a coal pit. Afterwards to be advertised as open for application. The Board recommended the Government to refund to Messrs G. G. Russell and Co. maney received for acreage found to be deficient. Messrs Connell and VToodie applied to have certain lands at Gleuomaru surveyed for sale at 10s an acre by the district surveyor. The Board replied that they had no power, as the Government had given no notice of their iutention to sell the laud at that price. The applicasions of E. M alone, 11. Matheson, Herbert and Co., and W. Tys-m to purchase In ml under agricultural leases were approved. Permission for three months was given to Stephen Rowe to prospect for coal on block V, Tuapeka East. On the applicatian of Henry Connell on behalf of W. 11. ' eschemaker, E. M. Webster, and Robert Campbell, to have the time for survey extended, the d- strict surveyor was directed to be advised of the neces ity of completing the surveys within the time required by the regulation^. Mr B. Robertson's application for permission to form a tramroad through the town of Kinioch was granted until the land is required for sale. No compensation to be allowed Andrew Thompson was requested to apply for 25 acres in Hawkslmry Bush in another spot, that for which he ha:l applied having been previously applied for, and under survey. Mr Kenaston's telegram requesting that the decision on the proposed sale of land to Cargill and Anderson be postponed for three weeks, was read and considered in connection will' Mr Cargill's application. The application of Mc3sra Cargill and Andcrsoa to purchase 20,000 acres in the Teviofc district, was read and. considered. -A. letter front the applicants was read, intimat ing their consent to suspend their lease on run 199 on 20,000 acres, as shown on a plan produced. It was agreed that the application be received ami registered (the Chief Commissioner not yotiug) ; the survey to be made by the applicant (Mr Hughes objecting. Mr Brown's letter was read objecting to a valuation for improvements being allowed on section 69a, black 14. It was resolved that the Board was of opinion the land was ' of special value, having been improved by buildings, etc., and that the sale proceed under the 64th section of the Waste Land Act, 1566, and that the valuation for improvements be added to the agreed price.
