WAITAHUNA MAIL SERVICE. (To the Editor.)

Sir, — Now that Cobb <& Co. .have chosen to ignore us Waitahuna people altogether for the sake of their own convenience, it is, I think, but reasonable that we should ourselves only look to jour own convenience — in the matter of our mails at least — even though it should be that the said company niust pay for it. Under the present contract, I believe, the company are required* to deliver pur mails at the post' office here ; but as the coach does not now pass this way, I think it is for the postal authorities to see that the mails are regularly delivered, and at a reasonable hour after arriving at Havelock. At present we seem to be under the tender mercies of Cobb, who says, '• We shall give you so much ; c;et the service performed as best you may.*" Now, 1 think the reverse ought +0 be the case. Let the Postmaster here see that the mails are duly and regularly delivered, let it cost Cobb what it may. Considerable annoyance, if not loss, has already been caused to the residents here ; and now that a money order office i? about to be established, a sufficient sum ought to bo forthcoming to enable a boy on horseback to perform the service, as at the outset, but which resulted in his being starved off. • Relying on your kindness to give the above remarks a corner in your journal, — I remain, &c. The Boy. Waitahumi, 2nd Ju4y.
