ORIGINAL POETRY. A TRUE PICTURE. .

I risein the morning to kindle my fijje, Tin* house in a muddle and dirty's a*byre , My windows are broken and stuffed up wi' rags ; And instead o' ;v door, I hang up tattie bags. My fireside is really worth coming "to see It's chockt up wi' ashes, burnt banes, and cauld tea; My teapot is eruckit, the lid o't is gane ; As for tea cups and saucers, in truth I hae nane. I sit on a kist for wanb o' a chair, Auld breeks for a cushion- I hae plenty to spare; To haud the roof doon it's tied wi' a rape, And ac leg o' my table's an auld tattie grape. In a corner there's turnips, and a bag o' seed wheat, A pickaxe and grub hoe, wi' handles complete; Bullock harness and such like, and an auld broken spade, My auld boots and firewood lie under the bed. I seldom am idle, there's nae want o' wark. When it's pouring o" rain I wash out an auld sai'k, Or read a newspaper that's sixteen months auld, Or patch the clay wa's to keep out the cold. On Sunday I rest me, if it can be cad rest ; When the hens gie a keckle, I seek out their nests. Besides, I hae pigs that nae doubt maun be fed, Then I clean out their styes and make up their bed. I never was married, nor never will be, They fling in my teeth that nane will tak' me ; Be that as it may, I want nane o' their gab, ! She will be a trimmer, that catches Rough Kab. < Cbugielee. I
