DRYBREAD.

(From a Corespondent.)

June 19th, 1872.

I have little mining news of importance to note from this quarter. All the claims have been steadily at work, although the supply of water, has not been sufficient to allow the ground being worked to the best advantage.

Winter seems to have come upon us all at once. During last week, we had some very severe frosts with occasional showers of snow. On Sunday a fresh breeze set in, accompanied by -* 1 steady thaw ; this was followed on Monday morning by a heavy fall of snow; succeeded at night by a very hard fr^ost "which has continued without intermission since, causing most of (He clanns to suspend operations for the present. However, there is a good prospect of a steady supply of water when it does thaw, there being a good covering of snow on the hills. At Tinker's, some of the claims have hit upon some very good ground, and the yield of gold from that quarter is likely to be above the average for some time to come.

T often hear enquiries .13 to what our representative, Mr. Shepherd, has done. Perhaps, now the sitting of the Provincial Council has closed, ho may have leisure to give us a little information on the subject. It is a great pity that the electors should be totally ignorant of the <rreat benefits they are receiving from his exertions.
