THE NEW FENCING ORDINANCE.
The Fencing Ordinance passed by the Provincial Council last session, and which was assented to by his Honor the Superintendent on the 31st day of May, came into force on the day the assent was given. It is important that persons engaged in fencing, or intending to take action in respect to fencing their lands, should understand that by the new Ordinance all previous legislation on the subject has been repealed ; and that the whole law as it now stands in iespect to fencing is contained in the Fencing Ordinance, 1872. It must be understood, however, that all proceedings legally taken, in compliance with the law as it previously stood, will still be held good under the new Ordinance. The saving clause is as follows : — •• Where before the coming into operation of this Ordinance any notices have been given or any liability incurred under any of the Ordinances mentioned in the said schedule, or any matter or thing done before the coming into operation of this Ordinance has accrued, or any action, suit, or other proceeding in respect of such matter or thing has been commenced, every such notice, matter, or thing shall be of the same force and effect, and every liability shall continue, and every such action, suit, or other proceeding shall be prosecuted, continued, an I defended as if such Ordinances were not repealed." — Star.
