Report No. 9. Re Petition of GOl residents of Otago, praying for the erection of a bridge over the Molyneux.
Your Committee have to report that they have carefully considered this petition, and have unanimously adopted the following resolutions :—: —
1. That in the opinion of this Committee the traffic upon this line of road is so large, important, and increasing, that the Committee recommend that the Government take prompt measures for the construction of a bridge across the Molyneux at Beaumont.
2. That if the Government cannot see their way to carry out the work, your Committee are of opinion, from the evidence of Mr. Bastings, that parties may be found who will carry out tire work, upon terms that would be beneficial to the publio interests, the traffic being such as would pay interest upon money expended in the work, and the Committee request the Government to endeavour to make such arrangements as would give effect to these resolutions.
