QUARTZ MINING REGULATIONS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. — I wish to call the attention of the miners to the rules as at present in force for reef claims. Having myself had a good deal of experience 111 quartz mining, I have no hesitation in stating that the present system is a great drawback to the opening of reefs. If the frontage system, as in Victoria, were in vogue here, it .would give courage to the miner, confidence to the capitalist, and last, but not least, save a vast amount of puzzling litigation in the Warden's Court;. Any one acquainted with quartz mining will agree with me about tho importance of this question. If I remember rightly, this so-called double-banking of claims was done away with in Victoria in 1855 or '56. I would further add that no jumping should be allowed — claims to be registered by name or number and notice of abandonment given to the Warden. With tbe hope that this may bring •some abler pen than mine tot tie work, — I am, &c, D. Davis. Muuros Gully, June 11th.
