WASTE LANDS BOARD.
A weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on the 15th inst. There were present— M.\ Reid, in the chair, .and Messrs. Duncan, Bathgate, and Hngher, Messrs. Gillies and Street applied for 39a. lr. 16p. of section 5, block XII., Inch Clutha, at present reserved. It was resolved to withdraw the reserve from the piece of land applied for, and to advertise it for sale as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale, the upset price to be 25s per acre. Messrs. Driver, Stewart, and Co., for Mr. Andrew M'Laren, of Tokomairiro, applied for a coal lease of 80 acres op the front parts of sections 1, block 111., and 8 and' 7, block 11., North Molyneux district. The decision on the application was postponed, pending a report from the Ranger as to improvements, if any, erected by the saw-mill licensee on the ground ; and it was resolved that, in the event of the land being occupied as a coal mines, the present applicant should have priority.
The plan of section 5, block 11., and 09, block 111., Waipahi district, was submitted. The survey was approved of, and it was resolved that a road 50 links wido through section 5, block 11., be retained, in accordance with the surveyor's recommendation. The applicant for the land, Mr. -W. A". Tolmie, was declared the purchaser.
The Board declined the 'application of Mr. William Shanks for a lease of bu&h reserve, section 48, block IV.. Tutnrau.
The application of Messrs. Williams and Archer for a store and jetty site opposite block XXL, Queenstown, -was referred to the Corporation of that town for an opinion thereon.
Mr. G. F. Reid, for Messrs Brown and Turner, applied for a lease of- section 42, block V , Shotover. It was agreed to a lio-ense, renewable yearly, for a term of seven years, on the conditions recommended by Warden.and Road Engineer, at £5 per annum.
It was agreed to offer the lease of run 177, Waikawa Station, and containing 20,300 acres, for sale by auction under the terms of usual lease, the loase to be for 10 years, to commence on the expiration of the present license, and be terminable on 12 months notice, the upset price to b,e a halfpenny per acre.
Mr. Blacklock requested protection to prospect for half a mile on each side of Poison river, West Coast, for gold, precious stones, and other minerals. Protection was granted to him for a term of six months, prior rights (if any) to be protected.
Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr. Joseph Clarke, submitted plans of land surveyed under application made by him, and amounting to about 10,500 acres, and applied to" have Mr. Clarke declared the purchaser. The plans were approved, the sale sanctioned, and Mr. Clarke was declared the purchaser.
T.he* Board declined Mr John Lindsay's application to have land opposite block XXX III., Clutha district, put up for sale. Messrs. Oonnell and Moodie appeared for the applicant.
Messrs. Connell and Moodie, for Mr. Alexander G rigor, applied to have the unsold parts of sections. s and 7, block Xllf., Tnch Clutha, pilt up for sale. It was agreed to offer section 7 at the upset price of 255. per acre.
Applications, as under, to purchase land, held by the respective applicants un<?er agricultural leases, were sanctioned on usual terms, and payment to be made in a month : — Mr Donald M'Kenzie, sections 13 and 14, block 1., Benger district ; Mr. James Leslie, section 5, block VI., and 11 and 12, block IV., Waifcahuna East.
Mr. R, Robertson was declared the purchaser of section la, block XV., Maungatua ; and Mr. Walter Miller of section 6, block XIII., Hillend.
