PROVINCIAL COUNCIL REPORTS.

(To the Editor.)

Sib, — Knowing your desire to. make your paper a weapon of power and influence on behalf of the Goldfields interests, I am induced to make the following suggestion : — It is an obvious fact that the " Daily Times " suppresses all the speeches of the Goldfields members, good, bad, or indifferent, frequently on subjects of the greatest importance, with the apparent object of keeping the electors' of the Goldfields in ignorance of the arguments used by their members on their behalf; while the representatives of Dunedin and tbe Taieri are reported at great length, no matter how unimportant the subject under rdwcufcsioni jnay: be. This is manifestly

unfair, remembering bow largely the proprietors of the " Daily Times " and "Witness" depend for tbe circulation and support of their papers upon the Goldfields; and it is the more injurious when it is remembered tbat many of tbe country journals copy tbe " Daily Times' " reports into their columns. I would therefore suggest tbat you make arrangements to have reports | furnished to you on all matters affect- 1 ing the interests of the Goldfields. The expense would be inconsiderable, and might probably, by arrangement, be divided between tbe Goldfields newspapers. I am sure that tbe interests of tbe Goldfields have suffered in consequence .of tbe policy adopted by tbe " Daily Times' " proprietors, who are all either Dunedin traders or pastoral tenants. Apologising for thus troubling you, — I am, &c, Fair Play. Dunedin, 17tb May.
