Commercial,
This week closes with very finn quotations in breadstuffs aud grain. On Wednesday the town millers advanced the price of flour 10s per ton ; parcels in sacks are now quitted at LI 2 10s to Ll3 ; dealer's lots are placed at Ll3 to Ll3 10s ; stocks in millers hands are light, owing chiefly to the scarcity of wheat. In oatmeal a steady business is being done at Ll2 10 ; parcels for shipment may be quoted at Ll2, if taken in sacks. Pearl barley is scarce, and is quoted at L2O. Bran, L 2 10s. Pollard, L 6. Barley dust, L 4 10s. In wheat more transactions have been made, and now that the price has reached 5s we may expect the farmers to bring more to the market. We understand that several large parcels have been purchased in the northern districts at 5s per bushel landed in Dunedin. Oats have not improved ; prime milling are selling at Is lOd and feeding at la 9d. Malting barley finds purchasers at 5s to 5s 2d ; feeding lots are scarce. Hay, L 3 15s. Chaff, L 3 10s. Straw, L 2 10s. Potatoes, L4lss.

The slight advance in fresh butter, noticed in my last report, has been confirmed this week, the supply having very considerably fallen off, storekeepers finding a ready sale for what quantities are coming to hand without the necessity of salting any down ; for good samples of salt butter in kegs, lOd per lb is being given. Cheese has slightly advanced, best quality is worth 6d to 8d ; second quality, 6d per lb. Side and rolled bacon is very plentiful, and fetching 9d to lOd per lb. _, Colonial hams, Is per lb. , Eggs are still very scarce, and the demand is limited en account of iihe high price, 2a dd to 3s per doz,
