TUAPEKA GOLDFELDS HOSPITAL
A special meeting of the Committee of the Tuapeka Goldfields Hospital was held on Monday night last in the Commercial Hotel. Present: Messrs. Humphrey, Walker, Arthur, Ferguson. Mears, M'Kimmie, Harrop (Acting Treasurer), Hayes (Secretary), and Dr. Halley. Dr. Stewart was also present. Mr. Mears waa elected Chairman.
The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed.
A letter from Mr. M'Swiney, tendering his resignation on the ground that his health was weak and his eyesight impaired, was read, and the Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. M'Swiney that his communication would be laid before the next meeting of subscribors. A letter from Mr, Copland, asking the
Committee to remove the fence interrupting access to Canna-street, was also read. The Secretary was directed to inform Mr. Copland that the- Committee had no power to deal with the matter. The Surgeon's report for April was received. It showed that on the Ist April there were thirteen patients in the Hospital. There were admitted during the month, eleven, and discharged, ten, leaving fourteen in the Hospital at date. The Chairman enquired whether the dietary scale had yet been drawn up. Dr. Stewart stated that he had written some six weeks since for a copy of the dietary scale used in the Melbourne Hospital, but had not yet received it. As soon, however, as it was received, he and Dr. Halley would draw up the scale. On the motion of Mr. Harrop, seconded by Mr. Walker, the Secretary was directed to call a special meeting of subscribers for the 20th instant. After some conversation regarding the returns from the various performances given in aid of the Hospital, it was resolved to request the Secretary of the Christy Minstrels to give returns of the amounts realised at their concerts at Lawrence and the Blue Spur. The Secretary was directed to request those having subscription lists in their possession to return them without delay. It was stated when this matter was brought up that only thirteen out of thirty lists issued had been returned. Dr. Stewart stated that there were three patients in the Hospital suffering from incurable complaints. The Visiting Committee were empowered to have them removed to the proper place. Mr. M 'Kimmie was appointed member of the Visiting Committee, vice Air Humphrey, whose term had expired. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
