BLUE SPUR (From, our Mining Correspondent.)

We have an abundance of water on the Spur at present, consequently ■ all the claims are in f nil work. With the exception of the Otago Co., who are driving for a blast, all the other claims are' washing. There is considerable ejscitement, anent the Gabriels reef, and the quartz fever is again raging, in consequence of a party striking the reef to the east of Messrs. Clayton & Co. workings, in Clark's paddock. It is believed that the sight of the golden quartz had such on effect on the disco verei'j brains, (if they lyiY.e any) that they actually hunted Clayton's party from the ground and took^possession As men in this state are rather difficult to deal with rationally, and moreover haviug been put up to some legal flaw, so common in our mining laws,' they will no doubt give Clayton & Co. some trouble. Sympathy is felt for Clayton & Co., as they are the only party that have done anything in further prospecting theline of reef, and have

been at considerable expense ii\ sinking and driving. It was simply from the information thus given, that the jumpers, including one of the contractors, succeeded in striking the reef so easily. As the case willcome before Wardenthis week, nodoubt justice will be done to all concerned.

The prospectors are busy cutting out the site for their machine, and as far as they have yet driven in the reef; the prospects! are very good.
