Knowing that many persons ate interested in the doings of the University Council, we give the following abstract of their proceedings during the past fortnight. Intending student! would do well to study the amended regulations, wbieh possess some important features. We are authorise.! to state that the Rev. E. G. Edwards, supervisor for Dunedin, has received no official information with regard to the fixing of a minimum and a maximum age :—: — On the motion of the Vice-Chancellor, the age of candidates for scholarships was reduced from 16 to 15, and the time for applications extended from the 10th to the 30th inst. The examinations were arranged to commence on May 13. Dr Hector's motion that the regulations affecting scholarship be amended to allow of the successful candidates studying the at the Otago University, was carried. .Regulations : Persons disqualified by reason^ of being under the age prescribed from obtaining scholarships shall nevertheless, other conditions being fulfilled, be allowed to offer themselves for examination, and shall be classed by the examiner. Two scholarships to be held by successful candidates for one year from date of award ; the holder to be entitled to select a branch of study, in which he shall be examined for competition for holding his scholarship during the second, and similarly during third year ; the scholarship to cease if he does not show a certain amount of progress by obtaining a prescribed - number of marks ; no sholarship to be engaged more than three years. No scholarship shall be tenable by a person after comgleting his 21st year. No under-graduate of the New Zealand University to be admitted to the degree of B. A., until h« shall have kept nine terms and have passed the required examination ; provided nevertheless that undergraduates of the New Zealand University, who shall study at the Otago University, shall be admissable to the B.A. degree in the New Zealand University, after having kept threA years' terms in accordance with the regulations of the Otago University. L7O scholarships to be only obtained by 7S per cent, of the marks awarded in the particular branch of study, and no scholarship to be awarded for less than 50 per ceut. of the total number of marks on all subjects. A telegram from the head master of the Dunedin High School was read. It informed the Council that an application for affiliation with the New Zealand University had been forwarded.

Since the above was in type, Mr Edwards has received the following telegram from the Chancellor (Mr Tancred) :—": — " No maximum of age. Minimum, 16 years. Candidates below minimum may compete, but cannot obtain scholarships."
