THE EFFECT OF BAPTIZING A MORMON.

The Carson " State Register" of the 6th inst. has the following : —

Some time since the ice was broken on a duck pond in Wade's Valley, Alpine county, fo? the purpose of getting to water to baptize a Mormon convert. Subsequently, and during the coldest weather, the pond failed to freeze over again. The proprietor thought a little strange of this, but looked upon the phenomenon with that scepticism' peculiar to unbelievers, until his ducks begun to die off, when he commenced swearing. Every duck on the ranch, twenty -five in number, died, when the ranchman turned the water out of the pond upon pome grass land, and now the land is as bare as a marble floor, and the rancher is in despair.
