The Wellington "Independent" says: — "There is something radically wrong in the nature of the relations between the electors of this colony and their representatives. A more long-suffering class could hardly be found than the New Zealand constituencies. Some are so easily persuaded into electing anyone as their representative, that it is a wonder that the Legislature is not flooded with adventurers of the type which has one or two illustrations in the House already. The equanimity with which electors allow their members to evade the ordeal of giving the usual account of their political stewardship is an excellent thing for the members, although it may not be productive of advantage to the constituencies. The last general election has had some very curious results. First it is remarkable that very few of the members have addressed their constituencies since the session. No Cabinet Minister has as yet done "so, and the only extra-parliamen-tary utterances of the members of the Government have been such generalities as have dropped from the Premier and the Resident Minister of the Middle Island during their tours in various parts of the colony.
