ANNIVERSARY of the WESLEYAN CHURCH, BLUE SPUR.

The anniversary of the Blue Spur Wesleyan Church was celebrated by a very numerously attended soiree and public meeting, on Tuesday week, April 2nd. The tables, got up under the able direction of Mrs. R. Clarke, were laden with an ample and varied store of good things, to which full justice was done. In opening the- public meeting, the Chairman, Rev. H. Bull, briefly referred to the financial position of the building fund, upon which a debt of £50 rested, and expressed his hope that it might be reduced to half that amount by the present meeting. Having spoken upon the advantages which might be expected to result from gatherings such as the one which he then addressed, the Chairman called upon Mr. Alexander Matthews, who delivered an interesting address on the books of nature and of grace. Mr. Paul Ah Chin referred to the hindrances with which he met in his work of Chinese evangelization — the greatest, he said, arose from a class of Europeans who were well-known and frequent visitors at the camp. The Rev. Mr. Cameron, who received a cordial greeting on the occasion of his first appearance on the platform in the Tuapeka district, delivered a practical address on individual workers in the Church. Mr. Bloxham gave an address on the courage of the wives of the generals of the Greek period. The Rev. W. 11. Beck delivered an eloquent speech, having in it a well arranged proportion of telling illustrations on the subject of Christian work and Christian workers. The collection having been made, Mr. M'Clelland spoke in his usual humorous style on Christian nurture, and expressed his sense of the immense importance of imparting to children a training founded on biblical teaching. Mr. R. Clarke having delivered an address upon the Bible, the usual votes of thanks brought to a close a very pleasant and successful meeting.
