(BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.)

(Per Greville £ Co., Reuter's Agents.)

DrjNEDiN, March 27th.

Writs for the election of members to fill the two vacant seats for the Lakes have been issued.

G. B. Barton is about to sue the Otago "Daily Times" Company for £1000 expenses incurred in the telegram libel case.

At a meeting of the Waste Land Board held to-day, Connell and Moodie applied for a reconsideration of Mr. Clarke's proposal to give up his claim to 1900 acres on the northern end of his application, in consideration of the Board putting it up in sections, as surveyed, to ptiblic competition by auction within Bix months. They ask that Clarke be granted an equal area, to be selected by him in any other part of his run adjoining the present application, in the terms of the application No. 402 d, it being understood that the provisions of section 46 of the Waste Lands Act, 1866, relative to the payment of the survey expenses in land shall apply to said area ; nothing in the present application, however, to affect Clarke's claim for compensation for suspension and cancellation of lease over the 1900 acres, or for improvements or fences erected thereupon. The decision of the 15th January was* reconsidered, and the proposal now made agreed to, lieid dissenting.
