Hannibal Gilbert, . of Port Chalmers, in tho Lawrence Wesleyan Church. The proceeds of the lecture were devoted to the Otago Bethel Mission.
Mb. Hattghton has sent in his resignation of his seat in the Provincial Council.
Mb. Edwin Geokoe, a storekeeper at the Kyeburn Diggings, died on the 17th inst. Lahten, a Dane, died at Naseby, from the effect* of a fall of earth in a claim on the 16th inst.
About thirty men are at work on the Clutha Railway, finishing up the broken work in order to make things straight for the next contractor.

Mr. Pollock, the contractor for the supply
of sleepers for the Clutba Railway, is vigorously pushing forward his contract. The sleepers to be delivered at the Clutha, are being procured principally from Kaitangata and Glen Oauiaru, while those which are to be delivered in Dunedin. are being obtained from. Invercargill.
