BANK OF NEW SOUTH WALES. Segal Utagfr : Mb. JAMES M'CAY. mHE Devils Creek Quartz Mining and Crushing Company is formed to work 1200 feet of quartz lode, already -L discovered near the junction of the Devils Creek with the Deep Stream, on the northern watershed of the Lammerlaw Range, about ten miles from the township of Waipori. A trial crushing of thrae tons — taking half from where the lode crosses the creek, about midway in the claim, and half from the east spur, about 100 feet from the creek— gave a return of six ounces, equal to two ounces of gold to a ton. There is a copious supply of water, capable of working fifteen heads of stampers ; but as there are special facilities for further proving the lode, it is proposed to put in a drive on either side of the creek at its level, and likewise to sink shafts on each range, which will have the effect of proving the lode to a depth of about 200 feet, and whilst this is being done, stone will be procured during the progress of the work for future crushing. It may be remarked that the trial crushing wa3 not picked. stone, but taken from the whole width of the lode, varying from nine inches to two feet in -width ; and furthermore, some good stone has been found in the adjoining claim, No. 1 West. It is proposed to give the discoverers £1000 in paid-up shares, thus leaving a balance of £5000 available for the erection of machinery and buildings, cutting a road and water race, the latter about half a mile in length, and the right to which water supply the discoverers have. It has been agreed by the promoters that Is. per share be paid on application ; that 2s. 6d. be paid on allotment ; and the remaining 16s. 6d. in calls, periodically, as funds may be required ; and no call to exceed 2s. 6d. a month. The Share List will be kept open until April 9, 1872. Immediately after the allotment a special meeting will be held for the purpose of electing Directors, and making other arrangements for the proper management of the Company. For further particulars, apply to Mr. J. M'Cay, Waipori ; Wm. Hayes, Sharebroker, Lawrence ; or Richard Henry Leary, Accountant, Dunedin, to whom applications for shares may be made.
