BLUE SPUR.

(From our oivn Correspondent. ) February 27th. "We have not heard the last of the great land swindle at Moa Flat, /although the case is to be heard in the Supreme Court, our Teviot friends are doing what they can to prevent the land being alienated. A monster petition is to be forwarded to His Excellency the Governor, praying him to cancel the lease. I saw a duplicate copy of the petition at the Blue Spur, which has been sent there for signatures, and judging from the large number of names attached to it, great interest is taken in the matter. There is some feeling of surprise expressed that our member, who said " the fifty thousand acres of land sale would have no stronger opponent than Horace Bastings," should maifest so little opposition to this sale.

A lecture was given by the Rev. Mr. Menzies, on tho " Overland route to India," with magic lantern illustrations, in the schoolroom last Friday evening, on behalf of the school funds. Mr. John Cormack occupied the chair. Notwithstanding the inclement weather, there was a good attendance. Mr. M'Lelland, the teacher, and some of the scholars sang some very nice pieces at intervals during the course of the lecture and the other entertainments, which afforded the audience great pleasure. A vote of tliauks was proposed to Mr. Men/ies for his kindness in coming forward to asaisb the School Committee ; also a vote of thanks to the teacher and his little troupe. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded a very pleasant evening's entertainment. The amount l'calised has not transpired, but from what I can hear it is likely to be from six to seven pounds.
