Three horses to start, or no race. 6. Five per cent will be deducted from the gross amount of prizes, for expenses. 7. Correct jockey costume insisted upon, and a fine of one guinea will be enforced for coming to the scales or riding in wrong colours. 8. Parties entering a protest will require to deposit one guinea. THE children connected .with the Lawrence Baud of Hope will meet at the Grammar School on Saturday, March 9th, to form, a procession t© the Recreation Ground, at 10.30 a.m. On Tuesday, the 12th, a public meeting will be held fu the Athenaeum, when several gentlemen will be present to address the meeting. IN Conformity to the 29th Section of the "Gold Fields Act 1866*," and to the Regulations made under that Act and the Golds Fields Acts Amendment Acts of 1867, 1868, and 1869, for the granting of leases for gold mining purposes within the Province of Otago, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease for gold mining purposes of Crown Lands to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against granting such lease. Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing and lodged with the Warden at Lawrence, on or before the 6th day, of. March, 1872.
