AUSTRALIA.
Melbourne, December 26th. A discussion took place at a meeting of the Hospital Committee with reference to one of the inmates, named Hemalock, who, it was alleged, had been surreptitiously imported from New Zealand. Austin, collector to the Alfred Hospital, has levanted. He is a defaulter to some extent. The Permissive Bill agitation is being kept up. Meetings have been held on the subject. Mr. Anthony Trollope is announced to deliver a lecture. An officer named Des Voeux, from New Zealand, was charged with gross indecency from the window of the Melbourne Club. He was admitted to bail in £100, but on the case coming on he did not appear. His bail was accordingly estreated, and a warrant issued for his apprehension. He has not yet been apprehended. At the last wool sales greasy was sold at 7d. to Is. Id., scoured at Is. 4d. to Is. lid., and fleece at Is. 3d. to Is. 4d. Sugars have been sold by auction at full rates. Flour is at £12 15s. to £13, and wheat at ss. to ss. 3d. Oats are at 3s. to 3s. 3d. Tookey's shares are quiet. Sellers ask £17, but buyers offer only £15 10s.
