NOKOMAI.

(From our Own Co-respondent.) January 2-lth.

Several of your residents and miners who know and are connected with our district will doubtless be glad to hear that a company has at last been formed, >with every prospect of success, to work' the Nokomai Flat, The capital is to be £1000, in 2000 shares of 10s. each, subdivided into 8000 scrip of 2s. 6d. each, payable 25. -6 d. per- share on application, 2s. 6d,' on allotment, and the remaining two calls at intervals* of one month each. A very large number of shares have been taken up in the district. It is expected that the balance will be disposed of in Queeustown and Jnvercannll, which towns will reap ;tho commercial benefits attaching to the successful bottoming of the company on payable gold. It is also anticipated that miners on other' fields who know the district will take shares in the venture. A special grant has been applied for, and at present all promises well.

Mining is at present -at a complete standstill, no water being obtainable except, from the creek, which is lower than it has even been known before. The Chinese have all the creek claims, and still continue to do well. Alongabandoned shaft has lately been taken up by Shaw and party-, who', assisted by the dry season, have -been able to overcome 1 "the wafcer,*and have obtained a fair prospect.
