WASTE LAND BOARD.

A meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on Wednesday last. Mr. Walter Miller applied to have 1000 acres, being section 10, Block XIII., Hillend district, surveyed and put up for sale at 10s per acre. It was resolved that the land be surveyed at the applicant's expense, and put up for sale by auction, the cost of survey to be added to the upset price, and to be paid to the applicant in the event of his not being the purchaser.

Consideration of an application from Mr. Calcutt to purchase about 50 acres of the Hawksbury Bush Reserve, adjoining his property at Hawksbury House, was deferred, pending a report being obtained from the ranger.

Mr. Pavid Doull, Balclutha, wrote requesting the Board to take measures to prevent the Local Town Council from interfering with the erection of a mill on the site leased to him by the Board. The letter was referred to the Provincial Solicitor.

Mr. John Baker applied for a lease of five acres at Cooper's Gully, near Clyde, for coal mining purposes, and offering to sell coal at 15s per ton. He was directed to furnish a survey of the area he applied for ; and it was resolved to obtain the report of the District "Warden, and if no objection be offered, to grant tbe lease npon tbe usual terms.

The application of Mr. John Sutherland to purchase sections 5 and 7, block VII., and section 5, block VI., Waitahuna West, and held by him under agricultural lease, was declined, upon the Warden's report. His application to purchase sections 7 and 17, block X., same district was sanctioned.

Mr. Gr. F. Richardson, and others in the Mataura district, sent in a me morial, asking that the Board would alter Regulation 2 of the Hundreds Regulations, and instead of what was provided by it, allow, a rebate of assessment on unenclosed land, at the rate of 3s 6d for every ten acres, and irrespective of the class of stock depastured. The Board declined to agree to the proposal.

Mr. Harris, for Messrs. J. and A. Boyd, applied for a lease of section 44, block VI., Hillend, and which was described as a quarry reserve. , The application, was deduida.
