FURIOUS RIDING.

(To the Editor.)

Sin, — Permit me through the medium of ycur columns to draw attention to an evil which is rapidly growing in Lawrence — I allude to the practice of furious riding through the streets, which of late has become too cptniDon, and if not checked will assuredly, sooner or later, lead to fatal, results, .Withyi the ..last few weeks I havfj been an eye-witness to three different cases of furious riding, causing horses wilL vehicles attached to bolt in Rosa Place, Ido hope that a sharp look-out will be kept so as to prevent horse racing in the streets of the Municipality. Only last week a horse being galloped furiously through the street passed within a few feet of a horse harnessed to a light fourwheeled conveyance loaded with cordials. The consequence was that the latter rushed off, and I last saw it on the footpath in the front of the Bank of New South Wales. Had there been any children running round the. corner at the time, an accident would bave been inevitable.

What are our police about, or where do they stow themselves away, and why do they allow a full day to elapse before they attempt to bring a furious rider to justice. Surely their duties are not so onerous that they have no time to prevent a practice endangering the lives and limbs of the residents of Lawrence, adult a§ w©U as juvenile. — I am, &c, ' A E

ATHER.
