THE INSPECTOR OF TUAPEKA DEPASTURING DISTRICT,
(To the Editor.)
Sir, — No doubt you are aware that the salary of Mr. Mackay was £350 a year. .During the last session of the Provincial Council it was reduced to £150. He felt disposed to resign and accept compensation, but was induced to hold office for a month or two at the same rate of salary, as tht> time for issuing licenses was approaching, 1 and no one hut himself had the power of' granting them. That time is now past, and he has resigned, receiving compensation to the tune of £280 for the loss t-of office, and is now an applicant, I ! ■toear, for ifis same office at the reduced salary. I would not insult the gentle:men of the Executive by supposing that they would countenance such a cfisgraoeful proceeding.' — I am, <kc, Look-out. Waitahuna, 11th December, 1871.
