Lord Clyde was bred by Mr. Muir, Hardington Mains, Lanarkshire; imported from Scotland by the late James Jones, Esq. ; and is well known as one of the finest specimens of this favourite breed. Lord Clyde is a beautiful brown, stands 16 hands 1 inch high, with short legs and superior action, and is perfectly sound and free from all natural blemishes ; he is -also a sure foal-getter. Strode and Fraser's Earnscleugh Station, Dunstan. Hokbuck is a bay horse, seven years old, by Towton, out of Miss Rowe, by Sir Hercules ; dam, Miss Millar, by Young Wanderer ; Sir Hercules by Cap-a-pie out of Paraguay. Towton (own brother to the Peer) by Melbourne; dam, Cinizelli, by Touchstone {vide English Stud Book) imported into New Zealand in 1858. Marchioness, an own sister to Towton, and dam of Fishook, won the Oaks in 1855 ; and the Marquis, a son of Cinizelli, by Stockwell, won the Two Thousand Guineas in 1862, ran second for the Derby (for which he was first favourite) and won the St. Leger, Good grazing paddocks provided for mares, and every care taken, but no responsibility. Marksman's dam, by Hambledon, bred by Mr. King in 1838, got by Ishmael ; his dam, Babel, by Interpreter ; granddam, Fair Ellen, by the Wellesley Grey Arabian.
