A COMPLAINT.
(To- the Editor.)
Sir, — Permit me, through the columns of your paper, as one of many sufferers, to point out to you (so that nil interested, may be aware of the fact) the injuries we sustain as cattle owners on the Tuapeka Flat Commonage. It is well'known that a boundary line has been defined over which sheep cannot come on this, nor cattle on the other side of said boundary. But I muet tell you that of late, and for some time past, the grass that should be ours for our cattle is being constantly eaten up and soiled by sheep, the property of Mr. Smith, of Greenfield. This is occasioned by and through the carelessness or indifference of one of Mr. Smith's shepherds, who, apparently, is more engaged about his own farm than in looking after his master's property. Should the same course as hitherto be pursued after this intimation, we, the sufferers, shall have no option left us for our protection than enforcing' the law in the matter. It is to be hoped, however, that for "the future the sheep will be kept within the proper boundary, and thus avoid measures which would be unpleasant .to us and not pleasant to the sheep owner. — I am, <&<?., ' Sta.sved Cow. Tuapeka Flat, Oct. 18.
