Among the many new and handsome buildings recently erected in Queenstown, none are more noticable than the large two-story building Mr. Albert Eichardt has added to his widelyknown and popular hostelry, the Queen's Arms Hotel. The building in question is substantially eonstucted of stone, is situated on the Marine Parade, and from its balcony a splendid view of Lake Wakatip is obtained. Its interior arrangements are of a style worthy of a first-class metropolitan hotel, and to visitors will afford comfort and convenience rarely met with. A portion of the premises is fitted up exclusively for the reception of families and private paities. Those who may patronise this department will be spared the annoyance and inconvenience almost inseparable from living in hotels, and nothing has been spared to render the arrangements as perfect as possible. The Queen's Arms Stables have been recently leased by Mr. Yeulett, who promises to do everything- in his power to maintain the high reputation they have deservedly acquired. We have seen samples of really excellent hams and bacon cured by Mr. J. It. Gascoigne, of Tuapeka, who, we understand, has a good quan_ tity on hand, which he is prepared to sell at a Blight advance on Dunedin prices. Our local storekeepers should do all in their power to foster this industry, aa a means of retaining a large amount of money in the district which at present is drained away elsewhere. It is well known that first-class bacon is produced in various parts of the district, and should sufficient inducemet offer, no doubt the supply could in a short time be made equal to the demand.
