RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, WAIPORI.

(Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M.)

Police v. John Tighe, sen., and John Tighe, jun., for larceny at Waipori Bush, on the loth of August. (Remanded case from Lawrence.) Mr. Gooday defended the prisoners, who were discharged with a caution, the Bench taking into account that they had been in gaol for eight days. Police v. Same, for larceny at Waipori, on the 23rd of August. Mr. Gooday, of Lawrence, defended the prisoners ; and after Constable Dunne had examined one witness, he produced a summons which had been served on a witness in Dunedin, who was unable to attend. The witness had forwarded a doctor's certiflcate of ill health. On those grounds Constable Dunne asked his Wor3hip for a remand for eight days, which was granted, bail being allowed in the sum of £2.

Police v. John Tighe, sen. — For wilfully destroying property at Waipori on the 23rd of August. Fined 5s and costs, and expenses. CIVIL CASES. Buchanan v. Heaps. — Settled out of Court. Buclianan v. Eaton. — Settled out of Court.

Dr. Barrett v. Hart. — For a professional fee, he having been engaged to attend Mrs. Hart in her confinement. The plaintiff satisfied the Court that he had been engaged.

Mrs. Hart swore that she did not employ him, but that she only asked him if her child would take any harm from eating saltpeter, as she had already eaten a quantity. Mrs. Hart did not pay for the advice respecting the saltpeter.

The Bench gave judgment for plaintiff for half the amount sued for, with jcosts.

There was a large amount of business transacted in the Warden's Court on the same day.
