Serious disturbances occurred in the Phoenix Park, Dublin where the Association for the Amnesty of the Fenians endeavouring to hold a meeting, notwithstanding it had been prohibited by the police. The latter acted with great severity, and several hundred persons were wounded. The meeting, however, was prevented, and order was re-established.
It is considered that the flax crop in Ireland will be a failure this season.
At auction lately, 100 bales, fully three-fourths of which were New Zealand flax, were sold at £27 10s per ton. The stock on hand on July Ist amounted to 1166 tons. The market on tbe whole is fairly active.
The Bank of New Zealand has received applications for the entire eB IOO,OOO loan for the Dunedin and Port Chalmers Railway Company.

The Berlin official journal announces that 474 millions frances of the indemnity money had arrived from France. The Emperorof Germany has ordered the immediate evacuation of the departments of Eure, Seine, and End re.
It is asserted that Bismarck has promised to evacuate the environs of Paris by the 31st Augn;t. Switzerland is about to propose to the Europeon powers that tie rights and duties of neutrals be finally determined.
The Army Bill is to be brought forward in the House of Lords a^ain for the second reading. Mr. Card well, in replying to Colonel Knox, said that unrestricted sale of commissions will be allowed, no vacancies to be filled v p without purchase until the 3 1st October. Exchanges for money would be prohibited. The Goodwood Cup was won by Shannon ; Favonius, 2nd ; Mortimer, 3rd.
Disturbances were reported at Canton on the 24th July. A gun-boat was sent up.
