There are now numerous railroad loans and milling undertakings in the market. A dividend of ten p^r cent., hns b^en declared by the Otago and Southland Investment Society. Wool Market — Business during the month has been lively. Transitions mostly show an advance of a half-penny to a penny upon May .s-iles. Arrivals have not been so numerous as was anticipated. Firm prices and active competition are expected The intelligence from the manufacturing districts is satisfactory ; the mills being well employed, and stocks moderare. Xo advance in prices has been lvaiiscd at the German Wool Riirs. An import duty of2> per cent, is conreinpl.ited by the French Government, in consequence of which there in an increased competition iv the wool market. The tallow market is firm, there being a ready Rale, with slightly advanced rates. There are about 16,000 ca^ks of Australian now afloat. Tie price of mutton tallow is -t-3s to 43s Gd per cwr., and beef, 4Ls to 425. Australian wheat is at 59j to 625. The quality of Adelaide sorts is not equal to former seasons. Flour is neglected, there being a large stock.
New Zealand flax is in fair request at full prices. 14-,000 bales were off red and one half sold at from Ll4 to L3O ss.
Shipping. — The following vessels have arrived from New Zealand: — Robert Henderson, England's glory, and Peter Denny. The following are the departt res for New Zealand. — William Davie, Halcione, Asterope, and Countess of Kintore. There are ten vessals loading for New Zealand.
The Hon. Julius Yogel was among the guests at the I/>rd Mayor's bauquet on the 7th June. No arrangements have been concluded by Mr Voiel with Mr Broaden for the construction of railways in New Zealand. His negotiations with the Imperial Government with respect to the presence of £L M S. war ships on the Coasts of the colony are said to be successful.
A letter signed " J. V." appeared in the " Times " of the 12th June, regarding the prejudicial effect the proponed transportation of French Communists to New Caledonia would have upon tha Fijian uroup, and the consequent risk to the Australian colonies.
