COURT STAR OF TUAPEKA, A.O.F.
On the 11th instant, the installation of officers of this Court took place. Bto. Simmonds was elected 0.8, ; Bro. W. Hay, S.C.E. ; Bro. Bruce, S.W. ; Bro. J. Thompson, J.W. ; Bro. Gillard, 5.8. ; and Bro. J. Walker, J.B.
After the installation and other business was done, Bro. Titchener, who was the prime mover in the formation of Court Star, and who has worked very actively in its behalf, was presented with a beautiful silver medal. The presentation was made by Chief Ranger Bro. Siinmondß. Bro. Titchener, in the course of an excellent speech, urged upon the brothers of Court Star the necessity of going on in the same course they had adopted. It was for no merit of his that he received such a handsome
giff, as other members of the Court had worked as hard aud been as useful. From statistics he ha<l bei-n reading in connection with Foroatn . he found the members of the Order b\ their prudence and careful conduct had gained the esteem of the best thinking part of the British public. It must be remembered that it was not for Forestry alone they had united themselves together, but for benefiting the whole of the human race ; and he trusted the Foresters in the united district of Otago would, by precept and example, endeavour to bring Forestry to that degree of perfection to which it had been brought in the old country. Bro. Titchener then urged upon the members of the Court to work harmoniously together — if they did, there would be no fear but they would always be in a prosperous state. In reference to this special mark of esteem which they had conferred upon him, it would be the means of urging him on to further the wellbeing of the Order. He could not find words to express the feelings which their kindness had drawn forth, but he trusted that his future actions would be a guarantee that their confidence was not misplaced, or their kindness received with ingratitude. — (Applause.)
The medal, which was beautifully chased, and had an emblematical pendant, had the following inscription engraved upon it : — " Presented to P.C.R. Elijah Titchenerby the brethen of the Court Star of Tuapeka, 5193, as a token of their esteem and respect for his zeal in the formation of the Court, and his untiring interest in its welfare— llth July, 1371." On the other side of the medal the Foresters coat of arms was engraved.
