Anglo American treaty provides for the appointment of five arbitrators for the settlement of the Alabama claims, Viz., Queen President Grant, Emperor of Brazil, the King of Italy, and President of Switzerland. The arbitrators will meet at Geneva. The treaty is for ten years. Both parties undertake henceforth to prevent the recurrence of incidents like that of the Alabama. Obituary. — Sir John Herschel.
