A REPLY.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, — The name of T. E. Bowes must be lightly thought of by the owner, or he would not have attached it to the " Disclaimer " published in your last issue, As to your correspondent's statements being true or false I leave those who were present to judge, and those who were not I will try to assist in judging Mr, Bowes ' "veracity. He has made the discovery that three-fouiths of Christendom are Roman Catholics ; his modesty must be as long as his legs, or he would have said the four-fourths. He does not tell us on what authority he has made this statement, but T suppose it is like all the other peculiarities of his belief -taken as he gets it, and swallowed without examination. I will now show figures to prove thit Roman Catholics, ia place of being three-fourths of Christendom, are not twice as numerous as Protestants, not that I rely on numbers, for then I must yield to Buddhism which is put down at 482,60:),000. I quote from Chambers' Encyclopedia — as good an authority as our worthy "Disclaimer," and all who wish to see for themselves can examine the book in our Athenseum, under the hevl '• Religions." Tii? tvt*v* bers putdnwnare, Pr0te5tant?, 95,755,534s Roman Catholics, 182.422,332 ; Greek Church, 74,624,300. The three-fourths of Christendom would be 264,601,774, Compare this with the numbers above ; and Chambers includes as Roman Catho* lies, the Copts, Armenians, Ruthenians, Maronites, <fee. <fee , which if you subtract from Roman Catholics proper, will rednce the number very considerably. — I am &<j, Faot.
