Proclamation only waits the Superintendent's signature. The Judge's report (with certain alterations requisite in the Court) is satisfactory. The Tararua arrived this afternoon at the Bluff with Melbourne dates to the 27th ult. Sir James Palmer died on Sunday, April 23rd. M'Mahon was elected Speaker of the Victorian Assembly. Flour is quoted at Ll4 15s. ; New Zealand wheat, 6n. 6d. — withdrawn from auction, six thousand bushels. New Zealand oats realised at auction, 3s. 6d. co 3s. 7d. The sugar market is heavy ; teas are in better request. A serious fire broke out on . board the barque Malay at Picton, which is supposed to be work of an incendiary. The New Zealand University meets at Dunedin on May 31st. On dit the Gdvernment contemplate great changes iv the Survey Department.
